A new race for the "Forrests"

So today was the 87th edition of the Jean Bouin, a race run in Barcelona since 1920! Off we went to Barcelona. Got there 5 minutes before race started but we did walk 2.5k to get there so that was our warmup! Bid farewell and got ready to get started. I went to the back of the pack and to my surprise I saw my friend Maria and we run together the full race. It was great since she "pulled" me along. I did 40" per km faster than my last run on Tuesday... it was awesome and wanted more :P My brother broke 49' and did 48:17. He's a champ! I finished in 1:08:33... a minute and a half faster than my last race 3 weeks ago... happy!

Next race for the Forrest siblings is on Dec. 19th, a 5k in Lloret. Also running a 10K on Jan. 23rd and our beloved Bombers on April 10th!

More to come as we run races!

The Forrest Brothers Team is running again on Sunday!

Woohoo! It's been a while and although I haven't been training properly or training at all, we're racing on Sunday! It's the Jean Bouin, the 87th edition I think! This was my first race last year, so it will be my race-bday, go me! I know I won't do very well but I'm going and I'm doing it! My brother will try to break 49' and he can do it! He's amazing. He hardly trains, maybe once a week or once every 2 weeks still he's great!

So, more on Sunday after the race!

32 Cros de Sants

So the Forrest team, my brother Dani and I run yesterday in Barcelona. Lovely race with lots of hills but great weather. A tiny event, very well organized!

Dani run a PB of 49:18 and he hadn't run for 2 weeks... amazing... he's a champ! And I finished, which was my aim as I had been stopped for so long (over a month) with the dyshidrosis on my foot. I was able to run the full distance and finished in 1:09:55, not bad for this old woman! Hoping to be able to run all my scheduled runs in november. Next race is Nov. 21, I can improve that time. Hopefully my foot will respect me (and my full body) and I'll be able to run it too!

La Mercè

So, another Forrest race for us 2! Cursa de la Mercè in Barcelona, a 10K. Got there, warmed up (part that I always skip...) and set off. Lovely easy start as we were 12,000 running! Good pace (for me) though. First stop at k6, as my friend Xavi was in pain. We walked a little, then again and again. At k8 I set off and left him behind feeling horrible but he insisted. Both my brother and I did great and had a great time. He finished in 51:34 and I finished in 1:07:22 (4 minutes faster than my last 10K!)

Next one coming soon!

2 more races done!

Oops... it's been a while! So the Forrest team, that's my brother Dani and I have run 2 more races. The first Ripollet, I downgraded to 5K, he run the 10K and it was great. A hilly course but with great company from Xavi Papell. He's injured and had to walk uphill. I waited for him. I know he'd done the same had it been the other way around! Finish time 35:35 but felt like I could have gone forever... not bad after hardly training! Having someone to run with did the trick too!

And yesterday, the Forrest team run again... a 12K here in Girona. He came from Barcelona and we run. I set off first (it was very popular so that could be done!) 20 minutes before everyone else (well... lots were going whenever) that was racing. Dani did great in 1:04. I did 1:27, not bad for me... felt great. Only walked the hills (they were steep, steep!) wich was about 2ks of the race and was happy to see I could run no problem over an hour... loved the feeling!

So, the Forrest team's next Race is next Sunday, la cursa de la Mercè in Barcelona, a 10K. Did it 4 years ago. Pretty flat and very popular. Can't wait!

Ok, a bit of info

So, I started running a year ago at the end of this month. I so badly wanted to run a race that I signed up for the Jean Bouin on November 29th, the day after my birthday, as a self birthday present. I told my brother and got him hooked so I signed him up too! That was our first race together. He did great, loved it and became and addict ;) I came in LAST but with my head up high after completing the 10k without walk breaks!

We then run the Cursa del Barri de Sant Antoni on January 24th 2010, another 10K. I did a lot better than the first. Still slow but not last!

After that we didn't run together until April 18th on the best race I've done so far. Perfectly well organized, lots of people, 18,000 of us out there... grand! Cursa dels Bombers de Barcelona. So we ran that and that's where I started a loss of motivation journey :( I think that all little things in life added up and poof... but I'm on the mend ;)

And after Bombers it was La Cursa de El Corte Inglés, an 11k also in Barcelona. I didn't train and well, didn't do bad but could have done better. Dani did awesome!

Up to yesterday we didn't run together again in Malgrat de Mar. It was a lovely little race with about 500 people in a little coastal town. Well organized despite the heat (organization can do nothing about it!). Dani did great although he hadn't trained or run since May 30th... being a man is good I guess! I was slow but then again I haven't done any proper training in ages, but I think I'm back at it! We finished and took a dip in the sea... lovely... nothing like finishing a race and having a little swim! The swim was over as soon as we spotted a couple jellyfish around us, LOL!

So, I found another 10k on August 29th, asked Dani and... we're signed up! So... more to come from us!

Siblings running united!

This blog is intended to report on the races my brother Dani and I run together... well, we go together, he runs faster than me and we meet at the end!

I will post later to explain what we've done so far... kids are calling now!
